I have a 29 gallon tank i would like to have a native fish tank. i would like to put two 3-4″ largemouth bass and a 5″ blue channel catfish. i would keep them in here until they are too big and then i will release them into my friends farm pond where i caught them. I would like to keep these fish for hopefully 6 months. would they live for a while if i do regular water changes?

I posted the following question a few minutes ago but I need to add some details. I stated that I had a cory catfish that was about 6 inches long and several comments said it couldn’t be a cory. That is what they told me at Petland when I bought him last year, but after researching online it really looks like a channel catfish but I don’t think those are for aquariums…so I really don’t know what kind it is. But I do have my water levels and everything checked weekly and they are all ok (according to Petland) and I was told again by Petland to keep my temp between 72F & 78F, which I do. So those couldn’t be the issues behind this catfish acting crazy, swimming up and down the front and sides of the tank and knocking decor over…so any ideas? Thanks.

In a few months i plan on buying about a 75 gallon aquarium. I will be putting my oscar and my gold channel catfish in that,

right now i have a 45 gallon that has also a 4 lined pimelodella catfish ( even though it only has one line and pretty spots) and 3 black convict cichlids ( one male two females)

what else would you suggest for my larger tank i will be getting? with the oscar and channel cat
The convict cichlids are going to be housed by them self after i move out the oscar and my channel cat, i might try to keep my pimelodella in with them. But when they have babies, i have heard stories of the male taking a full grown oscar down.

BTW my oscar is still a baby, under 4 inches.

Does anybody have any in depth reading on channel catfish? They’re abundant in my local Pittsburgh rivers. You can catch them with french fries while fishing (i.e. little effort required).

I think it would be cool to do a big species tank that emulates the local environment for a couple of these guys… Like lift some aged stones with moss growing on them & driftwood / roots from the same location that the fish would be acquired from.

Does anybody have any good web resources / reading on these fish? Or are they completely inappropriate for an aquarium? The ones I see are typically around 12″ long by around 9″ around.
Eh.. 125 or 180 gal is about the most I could spare.
