I have a 10g tank with a gravel bottom, and the gravel looks pretty cool, but i was wondering if there would be any benefit to getting sand instead. I personally think that sank would look cooler than gravel, but will it do anything differently?
Mainly, will the ammonia/nitrite/nitrate-eating bacteria grow any different?
Will my little snails (theyre actually baby Mystery snails, not the bad ones that take over) still bury themselves in the sand?
I have a dojo loach, will it enjoy the sand anymore than gravel? I’ve read that they like softer substrates because they move along the bottom instead of swimming.
Can a large snail still move in sand? It seems like thatd be relatively hard for them.

Why would Goldfish stay at the bottom of the pond,when they always stayed near the top?

It is a small feeder goldfish and just started this behavior.

my pond if really really dirty and i havent gave my fish any food in a long time. i was cleaning out the leaves on the bottom and i notice i had babies. it winter and how is this. they are half inch long, how old you think they are? i dont add anything to my pond but food here and there. i used to but the keep dying so i stop and they are still alive. how is this? im starting back feeding them, what is something good for the babies? what can i use to clean my pond? dont know how many babies i have cause i cant see in the water!! that dirty!

My guppy just had fry when I was at school. I was able to save 7 of them. I keep them in a 2.5 minibow. Is that big enough? Also, what should I feed them. They stay mostly near the bottom, and when I tried to crush a couple of flakes and feed them, but they probably didn’t see them. The Petco manager said that powdered egg is good. What do you guys suggest? Also, I have an otocinclus in the 2.5 my my 6 puny fry, is that ok? One more thing, . My 2.5 minibow came with an undergravel filter, and yesterday I went to buy one of those elite mini submersible filter. Is that an ok filter. I was wondering if I should have the intake thing for the filter near where the water shoots our from the ug filter, or not?
