Aquarium FIlter Won’t Star Again?

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

I had to unplug the filter so I could move the tank now it won’t restart again. It’s not a simple matter of pouring the water into the back because I’ve tried that. It’s not the power source because the heather and light source both worked plugged into that same outlet. It’s like the motor has died by my unplugging it. I am taking it back to the petstore tommorrow for a replacement but until then I’d like to know how long can fish live without a filter?

I have a 20 gallon tank with approximately 15 guppies (a few large ones, but more middle sized ones), a few live plants, and some snails in it. If it matters any…prior to my unplugging the filter the ammonia was a bit high (not at a toxic level but just a bit high) and the pH was fine.

Thanks for any help!
If I had the time to go to WalMart I’d just stop at the petstore which is closer ;-) Without any filter of any kind how long can they live? Am I going to wake up tommorrow morning with dead fish lining the bottom of the tank?
And the petstore manager already said to just bring it in for a new one…that won’t be a problem.
It is dead. It does not need to be restarted by pouring water in it (tried, doesn’t do anything) and the intake is open and not plugged. No matter…it is being returned tommorrow for a new one. My question is will the fish live until tommorrow evening when I get the new filter?
Although I appreciate all the suggestions on the actual filter and fixing it that has nothing to do with my question. I don’t honestly care what the problem is with the filter…it isn’t working…there is nothing short of opening the actual motor box (which would void the warranty) that I can do to fix it. It is being returned. Now if anyone can actually answer my question (other than the one girl that did, THANKS! lol) that would be greatly appreciated.

Discus not eating/moving for 2 wks, then back to normal, but another discus takes his place w/the odd behavior

I have 6 discus. First the Snake Skin hid out in the bottom right corner behind some plants, now he is all over the tank, happy happy. Second, the Pigeon Blood, same thing – Staying at the back of the tank, different location, not eating and barely moving. Now he is back to normal, but the Blue Diamond has taken up the watch at the back of the tank. Each fish “under the influence” stays basically in the same trance for 2 to 3 weeks then comes out of it. Only one fish is “out” at a time. The rest of the group are happy, will eat out of my hand, kiss me good night, do the Macarania, give me high 5’s and so fourth. I don’t get it, they act like they are on their last fin, then suddenly they are back to normal? Suggestions anyone? I have a 115 gal tank set up Nov 2006, other fish in tank tetras, 4 clown loaches, 4 swordtails, and a pleco.

I have a fish in my freshwater aquarium that is about 4.5″ long and is striped with yellow and black.?

It likes to stay in the bottom and behind our tank decorations. it doesn’t eat the food that floats. it only comes out and grabs the algae wafer that I drop in and takes it to the back to eat it.
I just want to thank both of the users that replied to my question. I checked out the links on the 2nd reply I got and it looks like the striped liporus.

MY CLOWN LOACHES LOVE TO LIE ON SIDE & BACK !!!

both of my clown loaches can often be caught relaxing on their sides or backs. first time i thought 1 was dead !!! — but then researched & found out this is very normal behavior for clown loaches.
