I bought a fish today, that doesn’t seem to exist. ID please?

It was labeled Stingray Pleco, and it is not a Pleco, or a Hillstream Loach. From the botom, it the outline of a Stingray or Hillstream Loach, becase of the fins. The outline without the fins is that of a Pleco. From the side, it looks like an Algae eater. From the top, it looks like a Hillstream Loach, again because of the outline of the fins. The body itself is a little wider than an Algae Eater. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcgKFmK1VDo Any help would be appreciated.
It does look a little like an albino Goldpot Ancistrus, but it isn’t a Pleco, the body is smooth, not scaly.

My betta and other aquarium friends are having some problems.?

We had him in a 1 gal tank for a few months and he was fine; eating daily, swimming around occasionally (I know they’re particularly calm fish), mostly lying on the rocks or on top of the small plants we had in there. When we decided to get more fish (8 tetras: 4 neons and 4 others whose names have slipped my mind [they look transparent]), we got a 20 gal tank, added my betta, and a little scenery, and he lived by himself for a couple days and he seemed fine. We added the 8 tetras and they picked at his fins some but after a couple days they left him alone he went back to his usual activities of lying in the plants near the surface. We had them living together for a while, snails in and out. We got 2 catfish a while later because the tank was getting very dirty very quickly and the snails just weren’t cutting it, of course. The corys do nothing. We’ve heard so much different advice about how to properly maintain our tank and so far nothing works to our liking. With a 20 gal tank and 11 fish, we don’t exactly have the time to switch out all the water every few days. Usually once every 1 or 2 weeks, we switch out half of our water and clean most of the algae. It looks fine at first, but then gets just as dirty in only a few days. Of course, we have a filter and heater (we keep it around 76-80 degrees). So after my complete aquarium history, to my main point: my pride and glory, my very majestic betta, Junior, looks to be suffering from some scrapes along his sides. The first day I saw it, it seemed to be very fleshy. His scales and skin looked they had been sanded away. We moved him back to his 1 gal with some rocks and plants along with one of those filters that vibrates and makes bubbles. His small tank doesn’t have a heater, but it doesn’t ever go below 76. Back in his original home, he seems even worse. We put some aquarium salt in his 1 gal (and in my other 20 gal just in case) and it didn’t seem to do him much. All-in-all, he has the sanded-looking skin, a thin, white layering around his body, and he seems to be breathing very hard; taking large gulps very quickly (this seemed odd since they are mostly calm fish) and he is just lying on rocks not moving. As I type, I’m watching him and wondering what else I can do to help him get back to health. I know I rambled, but I’m desperate and in a rut and wanted to make sure you knew everything to help. Thanks.

Is algae bad in a betta fish tank?

I recently changed my water cleanser for my betta fish–before I was using water conditioner for fish generally, and now the one I’m using is supposed to be specifically for betta fish. I noticed though that the algae is growing on the walls much faster than before and that the tank looks cloudier much faster.
Are betta fish supposed to have algae on the walls of the tank? Or is it just that the conditoner I got is bad and I should go back to the old one?

is it ok to feed my lacecats (bottom feeders) cichlid fish food? what else should i feed them?

i have plecostomus food that is supposed to taste like algae… which the lace cats ignore. there is normal food flakes that floats on the surface for the platys and tetras, and cichlid granules for the firemouth and the red devil (yes yes… i know that the red devil and the platys shouldn’t go together but they are very different in size). when i feed the tank all the cichlid food floats to the bottom, and that is what my lacecats end up eating. is this ok?

How Many Rummy-Nose Can I Get?

I have a 29 gallon tank with a discus, an angelfish, a Siamese algae eater, and 4 panda cories. I’m going to get rummy-nose, I know that they are schooling fish so how many should I get/could fit in my tank¿ By the way, the discus and the angelfish aren’t close to being full grown. I have pics of them. Also, my discus got this strange coloration in little spots, I don’t think that it’s ick because it almost looks like the color of a neon tetra. It also has little black spots on its face, all of the ones at the store had it, you can see it from the pis, but not the neon stuff. Also, I have a pic of one of my plastic plants, its has like brown edges, I also have 2 live plants, should I get rid of all of the plastic ones and get live? Thanks for all of your help!!!!! Answer as many Q’s as possible!
