Freshwater angel fish or discus fish?

Which do you prefer, and why?
Yeah, actually. I was the only five year old I knew who wanted to grow up and be a marine biologist.

Unfortunately, it turns out I can’t scuba dive, so that put a crimp in the marine biology career. However, I’m still very fond of aquatic life (and most of the rest of it, for that matter).

Subject: why would you ask a question, about the discus and angelfish and erase it
Message: do you think people answer your questions for fun???, do you think we waste our time for you to erase the questions???, get a life buddy, and dont ask if you dont want to give best answer, you are such a LOSER

Well, I’m not sure why the user was compelled to send me that message, but I obviously haven’t erased the question… and now I will do exactly what they want me to do. I’ll choose a best answer.

It was a choice between the list of reasons they give as an answer, and another person’s, but since the 1-10 user turned out to be SO polite, they’ve made the choice much easier.

Help with breeding my discus please!!!?

Ok so i’ve got a breeding pair i’ve had them seperated from the other fish for a week and have got the water perfect temperature and perfect ph level, they have a great diet. Just wondering why they wont lay.
They also have been doing weird behaviour like their long thin fins on their bellies what they will do is like flick it a couple times, they also spread their top and bottom fins out, i was wondering is that mating behaviour? Also if it’s not what mating behaviour they will do before laying. Thanks for your replys.
Thanks
P.S Will they lay during the day or night?

How easy is it to breed discus?

Have any of you bred discus fish? If so, how easy or hard is it. I have a cichlid tank, a community fish(mainly tetras), and have had angel fish before but never a discus tank. I guess I’m kinda scared cause I’ve read they are hard to keep.
I posted a question on stocking options for my new 72gal tank, but i guess I’m interested in discus.
I’ve successfully bred cichlids, guppies, mollys, and angel fish, and am interested in breeding discus. How hard is it and do you have any tips for me.

My discus is swimming at the top of the tank?

He is hanging out right above the CO2. He’s about the size of a baseball, still eating frozen bloodworms every night (with fervor). Tank is at 88 degrees per Local fish store and has been for over a month now. 26 gallon tank with one cardinal tetra, 2 japonica shrimp. Lost 1 cardinal tetra yesterday. I’ve had this little discus for about 5 months and he has gotten everyone sick. I believe he had something when I got him and as a result I’ve lost 9 cardinal tetras and have an elephant nose in a hospital tank. The tank went through an anti-biotic round last month of Triple Sulfa all under the recommendations of the local fish guy. He looks good, good color, good appetite but I noticed yesterday he is at the top in the corner. I have an air stone on the other side of the tank and sometimes he hangs out right in the middle of the bubbles. i have a 60 gallon whisper pump and change 25% of the water weekly. My strip tests show:
Ammonia – Ideal
Nitrate – Safe 20ppm
Nitrite – Safe 0ppm
Hardness – Soft 75ppm
Alkilinity – High 300ppm
PH – Alkaline 8.4

please help. these little guys have already suffered so much.
I only have driftwood and live plants. I’ve had the elephant nose and cardinals for a year plus. The plants are in a two different kinds of substrate. I vacuum the gravel weekly. Carbon changed monthly, CO2 changed every 3 weeks depending on activity. I’ve had a nice balance for a long time. When I bought the discus I got him home and noticed large white, raised spots like grains of salt. He was also rubbing. At the higher temps for the last month he hasn’t been rubbing.
The LFS told me there wouldn’t be any problems with the shrimp. They even suggested them to me–I didn’t even want them.
Thanks for all the responses. This is breaking my heart. If you can’t trust the LFS who can you trust? This is a tropical fish store, too–not a Petco or anything. I’m sure you all know that just about everyone you talk to will give you conflicting info. I was told that fish will adjust to water and not to use chemicals like phdown. I have some and I will put it in slowly right now.
Thanks again for the responses.
