What do you think of this set-up for a 150 gallon freshwater aquarium?

My aquarium will revolve around Discus fish so keep that in mind if you want to help. I’m trying to keep fish that are showy since it will be in my dining area.
These are the fish I’m considering:
8-10 Discus (8 inches)
10 Corydoras
4-6 German blue rams (maybe because I have to shown caution with the other fish)
4-6 Praecox Rainbow
3-4 Blue Gouramis (maybe because I have to show caution with discus)
10-15 Neon Tetras
I’ve read that I should keep about 1 discus for every 10 gallons. Since I have 150 gallons to work with, I figure I can keep about 8-10 with still plenty of room.
For filters, I’ll have either two penguin wheel 350’s (filters up to 75 gallons which will be 150) or two emperor 400’s (filters up to 80 gallons which will be 160).
For aeration, if I still need need something because I’ll already have two power filters, I’ll use bubble walls/wands.
For heating I’ll use two 250 watt heaters. Any specific brands you recommend?
Extras will be put into details.
Not too sure on what plants would work well with my set-up, so what would you recommend? I want live plants in this aquarium.
For gravel, I’ll use brown gravel to have a more natural look as suggested by MagicMan.
I’ll by a master test kit to measure my water parameters because I know that’s a must.
For weekly water changes, what would you recommend for a tank of this size? My kitchen sink is about 25-30 feet away if that helps on selection.
Any other advice would help greatly. Thank you.
cichlids???????
how big do electric blue and yellow cichlids get. can i keep them with a small peacock bass, small arowana and a shovel nosed catfish?
Suggestions about why my fish died??
We have a 55 gallon saltwater aquarium. We started out with some live rock (not sure how much is there..ask my husband lol). So we added a Yellow Tang as our first fish. That was around January and he is still doing great. Then we got a Coral Beauty angel fish, six snails and a cleaner shrimp. They were doing fine (three snails did die from being old but no biggie). Then we bought a Royal Wrasse, a Fire Clownfish and a Pink Cucumber.
They were doing fine. Until my husband told me he got the Royal out of a tank that had a sick fish in it. Well, the Fire Clown ended up stressing out the royal (chasing it and nipping at him). The royal ended up with ick and died quickly before we even noticed. Then shortly after, the coral beauty died also. Everything else is still doing great. Then weeks later we got a new fish (not sure what kind), he died the next day! The other day, we bought a Pink Anthias square fish, a serpent starfish, and more snails……..
…this morning (we bought them Monday), I saw the pink anthias dead. Everything else in the tank is fine.
ANYONE know what is wrong??? If that first fish that died (royal gramma is what it was actually) had ich or something like that, should we have treated the tank. But even if that is so why haven’t the others died too? they are doing well so I don’t get it. My husband is going to be so bummed out about that when he gets home from work today ![]()
LOL yes they are saltwater fish.
My Angelfish has white spots. She is also hanging around at the top of the tank and not eating.?
The angelfish is the only fish with the spots. I have never had ich before but I suspect this could be the problem. But if it is ich shouldn’t ALL my fish be affected? .Also, I read that fluctuations in temperature can cause ich. I have noticed these spots after my heater quit in the tank and the temperature dropped severely a week ago. (From 80 to about 60) Luckily the fish survived and I have raised the temp back up. (it’s at 77 and climbing) Please help..I need the advice of a fish pro.
